![]() The Daily Dot's Gabe Bergado rounded up some of the best examples of the meme right when it started to go viral. 24, 2016, in which a Tumblr user posted "MS Paint-style illustrations of six bird-like original characters with the caption challenging its viewers to 'reblog and tag which bird you are.'" The post got over 101,000 notes in the first 72 hours, and the meme exploded. The history of Tag YourselfĪccording to Know Your Meme, the meme can be traced back to Jan. The memes are often recognizable thanks to the "poorly drawn avatars of the characters and ill-phrased descriptions of their traits in Comic Sans," reads the Know Your Meme page for the meme. The Tag Yourself memes feature a slew of cute pop-culture references, prompting you to pick the one you most identify with. And it helps me to keep motivation too ! I know what I have to do and when (and I have 5 stories ongoing) and I have one day and a half free to do whatever I want (writing or not).Tag Yourself is like those Facebook-friendly web quizzes like "Which Sex and the City Character Are You?" - but these memes are side-splittingly funny, purposefully anti-establishment and actually relatable. I actually made a schedule for my writing times ! It really works for me and I put in it the time when I had to only think of the development, the plot, the twists and all that stuff, and then there is the actual writing moment (no more than 2hours in a row for me). Hopefully that helped always feel free to follow up with any other questions. You might find that having a system of challenges and rewards in place keeps your motivation at a higher level. I will occasionally hold off on downloading an album I’m excited about until I reach a certain goal, which gives me even more motivation to reach that goal. Set yourself up with a little reward, too. Then again, do push yourself, since a too-easy goal isn’t worthwhile. Be realistic–pushing yourself harder than you’re willing to go will only kill your motivation. Or next month, or however long it takes you to write. Set a goal to finish Story X by next week. If you’re having trouble finishing anything at all, try setting writing goals for yourself. It’s possible that you just keep hitting slow points or walls in character development and lose interest that way, so if you can fix these issues, you can get yourself over these bumps. If you do some general troubleshooting, you might discover why your motivation is gone. Maybe it’s gone off track, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fixed. What caused the initial spark? What about it made you excited? Do some troubleshooting–maybe it’s lost that spark. Hey, sorry for taking so long to get back to you (and for being absent lately in general)! If you’re looking to rediscover that motivation that you started with, try making a list of why you started that particular story in the first place. I’m back to enjoying the things I’ve historically enjoyed, but in more moderation, and I feel better about my motivation now. Get out of your own head and get on with your life. Tell yourself that it’s just a rough patch, because that’s exactly what it is.ĭo things, Anon. Maybe it sounds harsh, but I desperately needed to stop feeling sorry for myself and just do things. ![]() I also needed to get my head out of my ass and get on with my life. So, like, knitting or painting or something. My therapist suggested I find something physical to do in my free time, something with immediate results (the opposite of reading/writing). It turned out that what I needed was to get out of my head. I felt like my passions were slipping away from me. It freaked me out, because my old hobbies were suddenly just feeling like work, like homework. And then I came to her wondering why I didn’t want to read or write anymore in my free time. I mention the therapist right away because there’s no way for me to truly diagnose what’s going on with you, especially if you’re cutting off your friends–this is a red flag for depression, and to me, signals that you should talk to someone more qualified than I am.Īnyway, though, my therapist noted that, as an English major, my homework involves reading and writing. Honestly, I saw a therapist, but there was also other crap going on. ![]()
